Establishing a Foundation for Sustainable Peace through the Expansion of International Partnerships
During the “2025 World Women’s Peace Conference” held at Enford Hotel in Cheongju, Chungbuk, the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) Global Region 2 (Director Seoyeon Lee) met with Ms. Simone Yankey, Senior Policy Officer, and Ms. Lorato Palesa Modongo, Gender Data Research Officer, from the International Centre for the Education of Girls and Women in Africa (CIEFFA) under the African Union (AU), on the 17th, to discuss ways of international cooperation.
Since forming ties through the IWPG International Loving-Peace Art Exhibition held within the AU last year, both sides have expanded their cooperation by sharing experiences of co-hosting UN side events.
Simone Yankey, Senior Policy Officer, said, “IWPG’s initiatives to empower women and promote a culture of peace align with AU CIEFFA’s goal of fostering peace through education,” adding, “Let us use this meeting as an opportunity to solidify our cooperation and deeply discuss how IWPG’s peace projects can be linked with international organizations.”
Seoyeon Lee, Director of IWPG Global Region 2, emphasized, “Collaboration with the AU is an important stepping stone for expanding IWPG’s global peace network,” and added, “Let us build a sustainable cooperative system and create together a women-led peace model that will attract international attention.”
Starting with this meeting, IWPG plans to establish a regular consultation channel with the AU and gradually promote various cooperative projects, including connections with AU-related and other international organizations.
Meanwhile, IWPG is a global women’s NGO registered with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Department of Global Communications (DGC), headquartered in Seoul, Republic of Korea. It has 115 branches in 122 countries worldwide and actively works with more than 800 partner organizations in 68 countries. With the vision of “achieving sustainable world peace,” it strives to expand solidarity needed in the world, spread the culture of peace, provide women’s peace education, and advocate for and promote the legislation of the “Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).”
